The Teaching of the Immoral Lan Caihe: Longevity
Longevity in Daoist tradition is not a single-dimensional (or linear) notion and implies some ‘geometrical’ or ‘spatial’ characteristics. It is associated with the name of the Lan Caihe, one of the Eight Immortals. The monogram for Longevity (壽, Shou) implies the idea of transforming the voluminous into linear (Shi). The voluminous is defined through the ability to manage the nine energetic fields (Shi) and (Yi) (10+1). The most important aspect of this skill is the alimentation with ethereal nutrition (Tian Yang, 天养).
According to all Ancient medical doctrines that defined and used the notion of ether (Egyptian, Greek, Daoist and Arabic traditional healing systems, to name but a few) the human body consists of a number of energetic specters of layers and it is also dependent on the space that it exists in. Said space possesses nine active forms of energy that have been formed from a three-dimensional structure. From the point of view of energy, the three-dimensional space is nothing but a form that determines a certain wave length that unfolds according to a number of macrocosmic parameters.
By design human bodies have geometrical proportions that not only enable them to generate higher-frequency energy, but also allow them to accept such energy from external sources when they are deprived of the ability to produce higher-level energy of their own due to a number of limitations (overall incorrect development, old age, inability to assimilate energy, etc.).
The Longevity Program is geared towards recuperation and reception of energy from external sources and enables the participants to obtain additional power to be used in the perfection of their nature. The teaching of Lan Caihe known also as the ‘Teaching of the Blue Chamber’ (Lan Shi, 蓝室) is related to the knowledge of how to acquire additional source of nutrition from the Macrocosm.
