Desire and Intention

It is very simple to distinguish Desire from Intention: Desire can not be controlled or can be controlled poorly, and Intention is controlled consciously. Both of these qualities are not difficult to characterize but not so easy to study.

Intention is generated at a certain level of work with consciousness and as a result of it appears a sense of integrity. Although actions alike can be attributed to the process of performing and intending, the return will be different because the intending person does not just realize himself in some action, but also extracts from it that what he is performing it for. If the action is triggered by Desire, no matter if it is necessary or unnecessary/ good or bad, there is little to extract from it.

Intention implies a person has enough inner strength to realize himself in action. For example, if a person comes into the club to practice or goes to the university to study, but his effort is concluded by only going to the place – this can be defined as a Desire to study. On the other hand, if a person comes to the place not just to do something, but constantly monitoring himsеlf, tries to give his own awareness to the process he is involved in – this can be defined as an Intention to study. Of course, these two qualities are related to each other – without Desire one cannot develop Intention. It is important to mention Desire and Intention are related by quantity and not by quality.

Intention is determined by internal order and discipline and Desire by chaos. The question of generating intentions is a question of will, a path through the negative thinking of ‘I can not’. It is also a question of order or even purity. Intention is like a Greek hetaerae – independent and free. The elaboration of Intention is a very individual work and it is necessary to rely on your personal qualities. The very process of realizing and organizing your own desires is not a pleasant thing to do, but it is the first thing to start with. You need to find your weaknesses and work on them, and at the same time, find your strengths and improve them. Both must be done simultaneously.

As for the orientations, they can be either external (and then, it is a question of Desire) or internal (then, it is a question of Intention). My assessment about correct and false is next: if you are on the Path of development and realization of your own actions, sooner or later it will lead you to the understanding of your own existence through the perspective of fulfilling. If you still do not understand what you are doing, then perhaps, the problem is in the quality of your actions. We can understand the necessity of an action, only by the quality of its performance.
